August 19th-23rd Welcome back to the first week of the school year, 2018-2019. I had the pleasure of getting to know your child more through my classroom activities. As of the first week, I usually began the school year with plenty of fun activities where the students are able to feel comfortable and express their creativity skills when engaging in a several fun lab experiments such as creating the biggest bubbles, accumulating water drops on a penny and exploring the classroom with common lab equipment which will be introduced in the next unit. The pictures will be uploaded on this website weekly. Enjoy!
August 26th-30th Unit 1: ScienceSafetyandCreatingthe ScienceNotebook This lesson addresses science safety in the classroom as well as setting up the science notebook. Students were taught to learn how to use safety equipment in order to conduct indoor lab and outdoor field investigations safely.
September 2nd-6th Unit 1: Cell Structures and Functions This unit bundles the students expectations and using measurement skills. Students differentiate between cookies tasting focusing on measuring dry ingredients to make delicious cookies. Students enjoyed making raw cookies out of dry and liquid ingredients. The results came out great as all of the students enjoyed devouring the cookies.
September 10th-14th Unit 1: Cell Structures and Functions (Continued) The students were taught two different lessons; Cellular Function which talks about how cells affect the structure in the organisms and Homeostasis consisting of how human bodies maintain the stability of body temperature. We also made raw cookies as part of scientific procedure.
September 16th-27th Unit 2: Investigating Body Systems and Homeostasis In this lesson, students investigate and describe a variety of responses that plants and animals have to both internal and external stimuli in order to maintain balance in internal conditions.
September 30th-October 4th Unit 2 & 3: Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis In this lesson, students investigate and describe a variety of responses on the importance of photosynthesis that produces cellular respiration inside the plants. The students also learned how to identify the differences between the energy intakes in the prokaryotic and eurkaryotic cells.
October 1st-5th Unit 4: Heredity and Genetics The students just started the new unit, Reproduction and Genetics, where they will define heredity, compare the results of offspring from sexual and asexual reproduction, and recognize that inherited traits of individuals are governed in the genetic material found in genes.
October 8th-12th Unit 4: Heredity and Genetics (Continued) The students continue to learn how living organisms reproduce and pass traits to their offspring. The passing on of behavioral characteristics or physical attributes genetically from one generation to another is called heredity, which we recently learned including the famous genetic scientist named Gregor Mendel who invented the Punnett Square to determine the traits of the offspring.
October 15th-19th Unit 4: Genetics (Continued) We just had a fantastic Homecoming Spirit Week and we did not let the bizarre weather dampen us :) We continued to investigate on the formation of genetics. We all enjoyed the fun stimulation of craziness week with various fun themes. Enjoy your homecoming weekend! The 1st 9-week period is about to end today.
October 22nd-26th (One of the fastest weeks ;) Unit 4: Genetics (Continued) The students had an opportunity to make DNA model using its paper to display the double helix ladder containing various bases of DNA. It was pretty cool to see those structures hanging in the classroom.
October 29th-November 2nd Unit 4: Genetics (Wrap-up the unit) The students finally wrapped up the unit by finishing up the unit test on Reproduction and Heredity :)
November 5th-9th Unit 5: The Diversity of Living Things Students investigate how organisms respond to stimuli in the environment, such as chemicals, light, and touch.
November 12th-16th Unit 5: The Diversity of Living Things Students continue to investigate on the responsive by the environment. (No photos available)
November 26th-30th Unit 5: The Diversity of Living Things Students continue to review the concept of biodiversity and classification of the animals. We also did a fun bingo activity as well.
December 3rd-7th Unit 5: The Diversity of Living Things (Final week of lesson) Students continue to investigate on the topic of biodiversity focusing on the climatic changes for the living species all over the world.
December 10th-14th Review week Students are working on finding information about the necessities for animals to survive better in a harsh environment and we continue to engage in several fun lessons related to the diversity of living things.
December 17th-21st Final Exam Week (No photos available)
January 8th-11th Welcome back and hope you all had a well-deserved winter break. We are ready to embrace the new year of 2019! In this lesson, students will describe how biodiversity affects the sustainability of an ecosystem through researching a variety of ecosystems.
January 14th-18th (Continued) In this lesson, students continue to learn about the sequences of food chain and classification of tertiary consumers & producers. Biodiversity is an essential part of our ecosystem community.
January 22nd-25th (Continued) In this lesson, students were researching about the information on biomes and they will develop a power point regarding the biomes. They also will share with the class using their posters to display various biomes around the world.
January 28th-February 1st (Continued) In this lesson, students were researching about the information on biomes and they will develop a power point regarding the biomes. They also will share with the class using their posters to display various biomes around the world.
February 4th-8th (Final week) We enjoyed watching and learning about various biome regions throughout the world as presented by the students. All of the 7th graders did an excellent job sharing the information to the classmates. KUDOS!
February 11th-15th (Final week) The students continue to learn about Aquatic Water Systems and explore the interesting scenarios in the deepest part of the oceans. They also learn about four different ocean zones with different characteristics that include living creatures and abiotic factors to sustain living.
February 19th-22nd Unit 6: Living Systems (Final week) Students will be taking the unit test to wrap up on the Living Systems. We are ready to jump into a new unit :)
February 25th-March 1st Unit 7: Human Body Systems Students will be learning about the human body and their different systems with functions, and these systems work together to maintain the body. The students also did a mini-lab on the sun energy to justify the energy winds coming from the Sun.
March 4th-8th Unit 7: Human Body Systems Students have been learning about various human body systems starting with the skeletal and muscular, then we learned about the main structures that can be found in cardiovascular and respiratory systems. We will continue to research more on the rest of the human body systems.
March 11th-15th (Pre-Spring Break vacation ;) Unit 7: Fun activities all week Students have few fun activities related to the Amazing Water Properties and we experimented with various supplies to make it fun and exciting. The photos will be an self-explanatory ;)
March 25th-29th (Post-Spring Break vacation ;) Unit 7: Human Body Systems Students continue to learn about the human body, which is made up of systems that have different functions, and these systems work together to maintain the body. The students also enjoyed doing the nervous stimulation along with periphal vision where they were able to view virtual show in dark as opposed to daylight. The sensory system would quickly changed after viewing the VR system.
April 1st-5th Unit 7: Human Body Systems (Final week) Students just completed learning about all different body parts and is able to describe various functions of the human body systems including how they work together to maintain homeostasis.
April 8th-12th Unit 7: Human Body Systems (Final week) Students are so excited to be able to participate in frog dissection and we will actually perform the dissection today. We will learn about various body systems being identified when performing dissection. Stay tuned!
April 15th-18th Unit 8: Factors Impacting Earth Systems Students decided to create iMovies and videos of their frog dissection activities.
April 22nd-May 3rd Unit 8: Factors Impacting Earth Systems Students had an opportunity to test the water from the nearby creek to monitor the water quality. The results indicate that the creek water has more dilution and microorganism living things dwelling. We also had another special event, the Earth's Day awareness week where we were able to interact with four deaf panelists who majored in the field of Science and shared their insights about Earth's Day.
May 6th-10th Unit 8: Factors Impacting Earth Systems Students are finalizing the unit with the test and unit reviews. Good luck!
May 13th-24th (Final weeks of the Unit 9: Living in Space) Unit 8-9: The Solar System and Space Exploration The students will do a research on the famous scientists who used or worked in the space and investigate how humans recreate those conditions in their travel environment.
