Welcome to Sixth Grade Science! Throughout the school year students will be studying a variety of topics. We will begin the year studying the scientific method and learn about safety and procedures. This course also will include all concepts of earth, life, and physical sciences. As your students engage in this course, they will learn various skills such as writing the scientific method after conducting laboratory experiments and present in an innovative way. They will also possess knowledge in the systems and complex interactions between life processes and the relationships between organism, properties of matter, energy transformations, forces and motion, space travel, and cycles such as the rock cycle.
It is very important that your child is present in class and taking notes. We will distribute textbooks in the 6th grade science and your child will have an access to Houghton-Mifflin "Fusion" textbooks, which also can be accessed here (click on link).
I have attached a copy of my syllabus along with the lab safety contract that students will follow in my class for your reference. I will review both of these documents with your student in class and will keep these posted throughout the year.
You will also see a link to the photo gallery where you will be able to view of what your child will be doing in my classroom weekly. The other tab, you will see pacing guide where it shows the timeline of various topics being taught in the classroom. Secondly, Year at a Glance is a list of TEKS for a specific grade level divided into grading periods.
Lastly, I will use a Google Classroom to keep up with all our science information and work. This is a great tool that I will use to provide your student and you informed about the many things that will be completed in my class over the school year.
